SURETECH lock
SureTech Industries, based in Gorham, Maine has brought to market the latest offering from overseas. I understand this lock is manufactured in the Philliphines, and NOT in China. Russell Manton asked me to look over this lock and give my opinion. OK.. here tis... IT AIN'T HALF BAD ! wow... can you believe that I said anything good about a lock made overseas??? I can't either, BUT. This lock incorporates some design features that make it stand out. First, many of the parts are "stamped" metal. This provides some amazingly simple strengths with ease of replacement, and longevity. (remember the AK-47, simple, stamped parts, and reliable) They have continued to provide a finish that is quite nice. The aesthetics, and the operation make this a viable choice for properties looking to save a few bucks. I took the sample I have completely apart in about 5 minutes. I re-assembled it in about 8. That alone is amazing. I was able to replace almost any component in the lock in less than 10 minutes. Maintenance departments all over will be rejoicing at the simplicity. I didn't get a chance to play with the software much, but I understand it is Windows based, and all menu driven. This should make it easy to learn and operate. Russell says customization of the software is available to meet the needs of even the largest hotels. I guess if I had to knock one thing, it would be the sideways reader. I can't see that the positioning is a problem, but just different from the norm. That will make customers have to think about inserting the card.... bu they had to learn how to insert the card in all the other locks, so I bet they can figure this one out in no time at all. I don't want to offer a BUY recommendation, until I have had an opportunity to examine the locks after a few years in the field. BUT I can't say a lot against the lock either.
